Commander Marshal seems to be higher rank to Claire who is a General and or Brigadier General, When looking at army ranks there is not Commander.
As far as I know, neither the Army nor the Air Force has a rank of Commander. A Navy Commander is an O-5, to levels below the lowest general.
I don't like how their father tught that only boots on the ground sevice had real value. The military functions best as a collective. Take away the intel folks and people walk in blind. Take away the cooks and everyone becomes weak. All service is valuable. None should be shamed because the fruits of their labor aren't clearly seen.

There are now other battles like cyber war and other warfare where military out wit each other through intelligence and other means. But, yes, it will always be the shooting war where soldiers can show their mettle not in the safety of a war room where concepts and ideas are put into reality.
