I gave up smoking February 2013 started at the age of 11 I smoked for 46 years. When I was younger you could buy single cigarettes but I bought a 5 pack known as school boy 5's. The cigarettes were either Woodbine or Gold flake. When I started working I would buy number 6 or number 10 or Guards or Gold leaf. It was hard to give up. One good thing is I don't smell like an old ashtray.
Diana Rigg "only" smoked a pack a day, but lung cancer still took her in September, 2020. Such a loss! RIP, English beauty.
I understand that smoking is the most difficult addiction to stop. It’s more compelling than drugs or alcohol.

True Gift made me laugh out loud. Smoking was so widely accepted then (without any discussion of health risks) that even teenagers were permitted to smoke and I was one of them. I started at 13 and just quit at 69 and have been smoke-free for 15 months. It is truly a difficult habit to give up for a variety of reasons.
Oh come on. Most of these people were alive in an era when even doctors and TV commercials promoted & claimed cigarette smoking was good for your health. Just goes to show that corporate America still rules the CDC & FDA. I think Betty Davis living until 89 years old, isn't what I would call an early death due to smoking.
William Talman, though not well known by name, was very recognizable as the prosecutor on Perry Mason series in the 50s and 60s. His public service announcement against smoking while he was dying of lung cancer is iconic.
I became a cigarette addict in my early teen years! At first I rarely smoked 5 cigarettes per day, but as I got older,, I found myself addicted to 3 -4 packs daily! When I became a Christian it was the Lord Jesus Christ Who was my strength and I stopped smoking in one day, although I had to pray constantly for my Lord's help! Now it's been nearly 45 years and I've never smoked again! I never cared for alcohol, so had no problem there! Praise God!

These people must have stunk to be around just because of the smoke smell... We've all heard about Jackie Kennedy's over a pack a day habit, although I've heard she said she encouraged JFK to smoke cigars while he was still alive so she could blame the smell on his cigars instead of her cigarettes.
