Up until the 1980s, smoking on screen was very common. Every cool guy and hot chick did it. After that, smoking on screen was mostly limited to bad guys or shady characters. "Cool" people didn't smoke on screen. I've been smoking for about 40 years, and I'll say that James Cagney and Humphrey Bogart taught me how to look cool. Obviously, it's not cool. It is long-term suicide. In the 1980s, I wrote an op/ed stating that smoking was the only form of suicide acceptable in society. Even though I knew this in my 20s, I still smoke today. It's a terrible addiction.

True Gift made me laugh out loud. Smoking was so widely accepted then (without any discussion of health risks) that even teenagers were permitted to smoke and I was one of them. I started at 13 and just quit at 69 and have been smoke-free for 15 months. It is truly a difficult habit to give up for a variety of reasons.
I gave up smoking February 2013 started at the age of 11 I smoked for 46 years. When I was younger you could buy single cigarettes but I bought a 5 pack known as school boy 5's. The cigarettes were either Woodbine or Gold flake. When I started working I would buy number 6 or number 10 or Guards or Gold leaf. It was hard to give up. One good thing is I don't smell like an old ashtray.
I feel like vapes are the same as smoking cigarettes.
We were told it was a healthier alternative.
