When I became a Christian it was the Lord Jesus Christ Who was my strength and I stopped smoking in one day, although I had to pray constantly for my Lord's help! It interests me that your commentary links smoking to lung cancer, certainly that is so. What you don't mention is chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, COPD, previously called emphysema. This is an illness with strong links to smoking and invariably causes much more disability than simply lung cancer does.
I remember those ads William Talman did and even though his character was stern, even as a young child, i remember being sad.
